Frequently Asked Questions
Wages, superannuation & tax
When do I get paid?
Wages are processed every Tuesday and depending on your bank, should be paid into your nominated account by either Tuesday or Wednesday.
This means that if you have questions about your hours for the previous week, you must discuss them with Aaron before Monday or else you may not be paid correctly.
What if I don't have a superannuation account?
We will sign you up to the company's nominated superannuation account, Hostplus, if you do not already have one. If you would like to use an existing account, please ensure you fill those details in your New Employee Starter Pack.
Why am I getting taxed so much?
One mistake commonly made is that you do not tick the correct box on your Tax File Declaration when asked whether you'd like to claim the tax free threshold.
In Australia, individuals are entitled to be paid up to $18,200 before being taxed. If you feel that you are being taxed higher than expected, check that you ticked the "Would you like to claim the tax free threshold" box on your Tax File Declaration.
If you have a second or third job already, you cannot claim this tax free threshold as you will have already done so with another employer.
What award am I covered by?
The Restaurant Industry Award 2010 is the Commonwealth award which covers your employment. It outlines what rights you have in your role. You can get a copy of the award here. Please ask a manager if you would like a copy of the award, or if you have any questions about your award.
Rosters & Clocking On/Off
When and where can I find my roster?
Your VM will complete your roster on Wednesday before the week it is due to begin. Your roster will be posted on your Time Target account. Please scan into the system to see your hours. It is also printed and pinned up next to the staff lockers in the kitchen.
Why do I have to clock on every shift?
So that you get paid the correct amount each week. The lady in accounts does not know what time you start and finish each shift. She relies on the clocking times to pay you. You must clock on and off every single shift or else you won't get paid.
Why do I have to clock off and on for a break?
You have to clock off and back on EVERY SHIFT for your break. If you work longer than 5 hours, by law you must take a 30 minute unpaid break. Please ensure that you clock off and back on for each break.
